Floating Market - Crocodile Farm

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

Floating markets are an ancient, traditional way of selling commodities like food, fruit and hot noodles using small boats through canals. These canals were originally dug to provide water for farmlands but were also used for peddling food and other goods.

Totally chaotic, small khlongs or canals are filled with flat boats piled high with fresh produce, each jockeying for position and paddled by ladies ready to stop and bargain at a moments notice. It is colorful, noisy and touristy, but great fun! During the Long Tail Boat trip to the market, you will pass orchards, traditional teak houses and local people going about their lives.

Samut Prakarn Crocodile Farm

This is the largest crocodile farm in the world with over 60,000 crocodiles or 28 different species. This is also where the world's largest crocodile was born in 1982 measuring 19ft 8 inches and weighing 1,114.27kgs or 2,465lbs.

The crocodile wrestling show will really complete your tour of this farm and an added attraction is an elephant show which some say brings good luck.

Grand Palace - Ancient City of Ayuthaya

Grand Palace and Temple of the Reclining Buddha

The Grand Palace is a complex of buildings which served as the official residence of the king until it was moved by the present King Bumihbol to Chitralada Palace. It was constructed in 1782 during the reign of Rama I. The palace complex sits on the Eastern bank of the Chao Phraya river. It is famous for being home to the revered Emerald Buddha.

Next door to the Grand Palace is Wat Po, home to an enormous reclining Buddha image. The reclining Buddha is 46 metres long and 15 metres high, and the eyes and feet are engraved with mother of pearl decorations. The feet also show the 108 auspicious characteristics of the true Buddha. The grounds of Wat Po also contain 1,000 Buddha images mostly recovered from the ruins of the former capital, Ayuthaya, and Sukothai.

Ancient City of Ayuthaya

Until the later part of the 18th century, Ayuthaya was at the centre of Thailand. It was the scene of Thailand's original renaissance, and it was the capital until Burmese troops sacked the city in 1767, when the capital was moved to Bangkok.

Although Wat Phra Si Samphet is the main temple complex left over from the Ayuthaya golden age, some of the older temples in the complex are actually more interesting. Architecture buffs will be in heaven amoungst the fine examples of Khmer, Burmese and Thai styles.
